Search Engine Optimisation

What's the point in having a fantastic website if nobody knows it's there?

The first place most web users look for information is a search engine... and most people who use search engines use Google*. If you want potential customers to find your site, you need to appear in the results of the major search engines.

There are generally three ways to do this...

  • Pay the search engines to display a link to your site – eg Google Adwords
  • Optimise your site so that the search engines realise how good it is and want people to find it
  • Cheat - although this probably won't work as search engines are much more sophisticated than they used to be!

If you want to pay to get your site in a search engine's results, you should have a well thought out plan - otherwise you may end up spending large amounts of money for very little return!

If you want a search engine to think your site is so great that it should appear in the natural listings, you should really consider this as a key part of your site's overall design. Keeping it updated will also help, so a good content management strategy is vital. There are a number of techniques that can be applied to an existing site - but there's no real substitute for getting it right from the start!

Whichever route you think is right for you (or even if you don't know), we will help you to make the right decision by explaining your options in plain English.
